MEDIUM

Retail Reason is a hosted guidance service for Walmart and Sam’s Club supplier teams, U.S. Walmart Marketplace sellers, and the brokers and agencies that support them. It connects to supported AI assistants, Claude, Codex, and ChatGPT, and answers operating questions with maintained material that names the system, the date it was last confirmed, and what to check next. ChatGPT users need custom-app access. It never connects to retailer portals or takes actions in them. Written and maintained by Matt Drake, a practicing retail advisor, and owned by Startup Success Lab LLC, it is priced like software, from $299 a month, with no public trial. Independent of Walmart Inc.

EXPANDED

Retail Reason is a hosted guidance service for the people who operate on Walmart’s supplier and seller platforms: Walmart and Sam’s Club supplier teams, U.S. Walmart Marketplace sellers, and the brokers and agencies that support them. It connects to supported AI assistants, Claude, Codex, and ChatGPT, and answers the questions a general assistant gets confidently wrong: which portal owns a dispute, which lane a deduction code routes through, what a Scintilla tier includes, why a Marketplace payout does not match sales. ChatGPT users need custom-app access.

A team brings the question, plan, draft, or operating context it has. Retail Reason identifies what applies, what the available information cannot support, and what to confirm next, and every delivered answer carries an as-of date and a confidence class. Coverage spans supplier operations, Scintilla and Walmart Data Ventures reporting, Sam’s Club, Walmart Marketplace, Walmart Connect, and technical workflows. It does not connect to retailer accounts, retrieve portal data, or act in a retailer system.

The service is written and maintained by Matt Drake, a practicing retail advisor and former Sam’s Club Senior Product Leader, and owned by Startup Success Lab LLC, operating from Northwest Arkansas. Plans run from $299 a month with no public trial. Retail Reason is independent and not affiliated with Walmart Inc.

FIVE TALKING POINTS

What the founder will say on a call, so you can hear it first.

  1. A general AI assistant is confident about Walmart and often wrong on the specifics that cost money: which portal owns a dispute, which lane a deduction code routes through, what a Scintilla tier actually includes. Retail Reason exists for that layer.
  2. Answers name the system and the date. A supplier finance team learns that a code 22 deduction is disputed in APDP with carrier-signed proof, not argued with a buyer, and sees when that routing was last confirmed.
  3. It never touches a customer’s portals. No credentials, no scraping, no automated actions. The customer brings the question, plan, draft, or context; the service brings maintained guidance.
  4. It is priced like software, not a retainer: pooled use across an account, no per-question quotas, plans that fit a two-person supplier team or a multi-client agency.
  5. Sam’s Club and Walmart Marketplace are treated as their own operating contexts, not as Walmart channel filters, because their systems, credentials, and rules differ.

LOGOS AND PHOTOGRAPH

Files, used as they are.

Use the primary logo at its minimum width and do not add a tagline; none is part of the approved lockup. The app icon is the square mark for listings and avatars. The headshot is approved for author and founder use beside coverage of Retail Reason.
